Summary of the lecture
Safety remains a fundamental priority for the steel industry, where complex operations, high-energy processes, and evolving working conditions demand continuous improvement in risk management and organisational culture.
In this steelTalk, Ahmed Al Jadeedi, Director HSE at EMSTEEL, will present Aman 2.0: Advancing Safety Excellence in Steel Operations. Building on the original Aman Project (2018–2019), EMSTEEL launched Aman 2.0 on the 2023 worldsteel Day for Safety and Health at Work as a comprehensive programme integrating leadership engagement, operational excellence, and digital safety tools to strengthen safety performance across the organisation.
Implemented during 2023–2024, Aman 2.0 delivered measurable improvements in safety outcomes, including a 52% reduction in total recordable incident rate (TRIFR), a 35% increase in near-miss reporting, and a 31% increase in hazard observations. The programme also strengthened governance, contractor safety, auditing, asset integrity, process safety, and digital systems for Management of Change and Permit-to-Work.
This session will examine how structured leadership involvement, strengthened governance, and digitalisation can transform safety culture in steel operations, while supporting operational resilience and long-term sustainability.
What you will learn:
- Understand how leadership-driven safety programmes improve engagement and safety performance.
- Identify key elements of effective safety governance, including contractor safety, auditing, and process safety.
- Explore approaches to risk management, including SIF prevention, critical control verification, and incident management.
- Assess the role of digital tools in enhancing Management of Change, Permit-to-Work, and energy isolation processes.
