Summary of the lecture
Advanced High-Strength Steels (AHSS) offer automotive manufacturers an expanding range of options for meeting demanding performance, safety and manufacturing requirements. However, selecting the right steel grade is only part of the challenge. Understanding how material properties influence forming behaviour, joining processes and production quality is equally important.
WorldAutoSteel’s AHSS Application Guidelines provide a comprehensive technical resource to support these decisions, bringing together knowledge of steel metallurgy, forming and joining.
In this steelTalk, Technical Editors Dr. Danny Schaeffler and Dr.-Ing. Max Biegler explore how this knowledge supports more informed material and process selection, alongside opportunities to use production data and simulation to improve process monitoring.
What you will learn:
- Explore more than 60 AHSS grades and their associated forming strategies.
- Understand key metal forming tests and how their results are used to characterise formability.
- Discover how welding production data can be used to monitor process quality and detect deviations.
- Examine data collection, feature engineering and the integration of measured and simulation data to improve predictions in resistance spot welding.
