Description
In order to join the different parts of a car body and create the crash structure, the components are usually welded to achieve a reliable connection. The most prominent welding process in automotive production is resistance spot welding. There are, however, challenges to guarantee a high-quality weld when new material grades are introduced.
A three-year study, commissioned by WorldAutoSteel studied the LME potential in AHSS. The study was conducted by
- Laboratory of Materials and Joining Technology (LWF) Paderborn University, Paderborn, Germany, for experimental research
- The Institute de Soudure, Yutz, France, for investigations for non-destructive testing, and
- Fraunhofer Institute for Production Systems and Design Technology (IPK), Berlin, Germany for the development of a simulation model to accurately replicate welding conditions resulting in LME.
