steelChallenge-19

The Regional Championship
steelChallenge-19 took place in two rounds. The Regional Championship occured on 26 November 2024 from 12.00 UTC. Participants had 24 hours to record successful runs of the chosen steelmaking simulators.
The 19th edition attracted 2,624 participants, a nearly 60% increase on its previous year, representing more than 120 companies and 150 academic institutions from 34 countries. They used steeluniversity’s steelmaking simulator to produce the best steel at the lowest cost while meeting carbon footprint requirements.
steelChallenge-19 utilised steeluniversity’s electric arc furnace and secondary steelmaking simulators in a combined run. Participants were tasked to produce a grade of steel meeting technical requirements at the lowest cost per tonne with carbon footprint requirements. The simulation used a grade of steel specifically designed for steelChallenge-19.
