The carburised steel is part of engineering steels courses. The engineering steels is part of the steel applications set of courses. In this course, the history of carburised steels will be introduced, together with an explanation of quenching and tempering. In the next module, the aim of carburised steel will be introduced and the process, parameters of the process and different methods will be showed. After that, the distortion and stress will be treated. The final dimensions variation and preventions commonly used to avoid distortion will be introduced. In the final module, the failures will be introduced and the ways to protect a part of a piece to avoid the carburisation will be showed.
