Summary of the course

The presentation will give an overview of what Industry 4.0 means specifically for the steel industry. Starting from the technical core “Cyber-Physical System”, the various aspects of Industry 4.0 will be presented: (1.) horizontal and (2.) vertical integration, (3.) end-to-end engineering and the (4.) human being as conductor of value chain. Then Industry 4.0 is interpreted especially for the steel industry and described along the steel production route. After units on the topics “Digital Twin” and “Big/Smart Data”, the lecture concludes with practical examples of Industry 4.0 in the steel industry.

Prof. Dr. Harald Peters

Prof. Dr. Harald Peters was appointed to the Executive Board of the BFI on 1.1.2017 as the Technical and Scientific Manager. He has been with the BFI since 1991, serving in various positions, and became a member of the extended management board in 2006.
At the European level, Prof. Peters is a member of the ESTEP Steering Committee, the EUROFER Research Committee and regularly acts as a consultant for the EU and the RFCS, providing expert opinions mainly in the areas of automation and information technology in the steel industry.
