MAN2502 – Modelling and simulation – From microstructure to component performance

Description

Estimated time: 1 hour

Language: English

Modality: Virtual.

Summary of the course

Digitalization is not only changing the production also the Research and development. In this context, the modeling and simulation of complex systems can replace expensive experiments. Therefore, for example, in the field of mechanical engineer and automotive development, modeling and simulation is huge field of possibilities.

The lecture of Prof. Münstermann introduces modeling to predict how microstructure can influence the mechanical properties and performance of the materials. The aim of his investigation is to optimize the microstructure to exploit material properties. And in the other direction, identify the necessary properties and design the corresponding microstructure.

Instructors

Head of the Group for Integrity of Materials and Structures at the Steel Institute of RWTH Aachen University, Germany. Research focuses on new procedures for the structural integrity assessment in order to fully exploit the mechanical property profiles of structural materials. Furthermore, developing tools for the computational microstructure design of damage tolerant metallic materials.
