Estimated Time: 1 hr

Summary of the lecture

Identification of desired level of skills required to perform jobs for each job position, assessment of present skill level of persons holding these job positions and imparting requisite education and training to improve the skills, in case of gaps between the desired and present levels, is key for sustainable operations of any company, especially steel plants.

Tata Steel Limited developed an IT-enabled Enterprise Capability Building System (ECBS) for an objective skill-level assessment (based on question bank) system to identify skill gaps for its blue collared workforce to impart requisite training to these employees to bridge the skill gaps. This system has been implemented for about 20,000 employees of the company.

The lecture presents the details of designing and delivering this system, including challenges faced by the company.
