Summary of the lecture

We have been operating under unusually uncertain and volatile conditions for the last decade or so. The energy and transportation sectors, for example, are transforming at an astonishing speed faced with increasing pressures from environmental regulations and disruptive technologies. The established global order seems to have been challenged politically and economically on different fronts. The COVID-19 pandemic have reinforced & accelerated many of these continuing changes. Before COVID-19 we had been considering a timeline over the next 10-20 years. It is now clear that things will move much quicker.

Worldsteel carried out a one and a half year study to develop a deeper understanding of macro megatrends, the resultant industry specific consequences for major steelusing industries and the likely evolution paths for the steel business in the decades to come.

In this talk, we will get to hear the main findings of this study on megatrends, how they are expected to shape the global socioeconomic landscape and the future of steel using sectors and the global steel industry.
