Summary of the lecture
Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) optimisation is an important area of study as the EAF has been identified as one of the key technologies to achieve decarburisation in the steel industry.
This presentation will address the focus on EAF technology over the past 20 years and look ahead to the next 10 years.
The presentation will review technologies and tools that can assist the EAF operator in achieving operational consistency and improved productivity and product quality.

Jeremy Jones is currently a founding partner and President of Continuous Improvement Experts (CIX). Jeremy is an Honorary member of the AIME, a distinguished Member of the AIST, a fellow of the International Iron Metallics Association and recipient of the John Bell Award for advancing EAF technologies.
Jeremy has carried out assignments for clients in over 100 countries. He is the past chairman of the AIST EAF Committee and past Chairman of the WorldSteel EAF Technology Committee. Jeremy is one of the original instructors of the AIST EAF training seminar which has been running for 29 years and has authored more than 100 technical papers. Jeremy was a primary author of the Steelmaking edition of the reference book “Making, Shaping and Treating of Steel”.
Jeremy’s steelmaking experience spans direct reduction, smelting reduction, EAF steelmaking, Blast furnace operations, BOF operations, ladle metallurgy, vacuum treatment and casting operations for all grades of steel. Previous assignments have spanned the fields of project management, project negotiations, process engineering, process control engineering, process simulation and optimisation, environmental engineering, industrial engineering and management consulting.
