SUMMARY OF THE LECTURE
In this lecture, the results of experimental tests of full-scale steel connections in quasi-static tests are discussed. Connections between steel profiles and cases with columns embedded in reinforced concrete are analysed in order to assess the vulnerability of existing buildings and modern construction trends.
SPEAKER INTRODUCTION
Edgar Tapia Hernández PhD in Structural Engineering / Professor – Researcher in the Area of Sustainability and Technological Development. Metropolitan Autonomous University, Mexico City
He has published more than 80 research articles related to Structural Engineering in National Congresses, International Congresses, Indexed Journals and Technical Reports. Co-author of four books related to the analysis and design of structures. He has been director of more than 30 Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD theses in Engineering. He was President of the Mexican Society of Seismic Engineering (SMIS) between 2020 – 2021. He has been a visiting professor at the University of California in San Diego, United States (2014) and carried out research stays at the École Polytechnique de Montreal, Canada (2008 and 2009). He belongs to the Mexican National System of Researchers, (SNI, by its acronym in Spanish) since 2013. He has been a consultant for various structural projects in Mexico; mainly, in irregular buildings and tall buildings under the criteria of current regulations. Committee Member. He is a reviewer for various specialised international journals and participates in various committees for the development of standards and regulations. Among them:
- Member of the Subcommittee for the elaboration of the Complementary Technical Standards for the Design and Construction of Steel Structures (NTC-DCEA) of the Construction Regulations for Mexico City.
- Member of the Subcommittee for the preparation of the Complementary Technical Standards for Earthquake Design (NTC-DS) of the Construction Regulations for Mexico City.
- Member of the Technical Committee for Structural Safety of the Educational Infrastructure Institute (INIFED) of Mexico.
- Member of the Coordinating Committee for the elaboration of the Mexican Model Code for the Seismic Design of Buildings.
