Hangyu Zhu

Associate professor in the School of Materials and Metallurgy at Wuhan University of Science and Technology
Faculty Advisor of Zhihao Zheng

Hangyu Zhu is an associate professor in the School of Materials and Metallurgy at Wuhan University of Science and Technology. He obtained his PhD from Central Iron & Steel Research Institute in 2013. He supervised students to participate in steelChallenge since 2013, and is invited to guide students to participate in various science and research competitions for college students every year.

Dr Zhu’s research interests lie in the area of secondary refining process, optimization of refining slag and control of non-metallic inclusions in steel. He is currently investigating the formation mechanism of inclusions in high manganese high aluminum steel and the process optimization for high aluminum steel.

Jeong Seb Han

Ph.D. in Materials Engineering, Professor at Dong-A University
Faculty Advisor of Kwon Ik Hwa

Professor Han obtained his PhD in Materials Engineering from KAIST, Korea in 1986. He has been a professor at Dong-A University for 34 years. His main research focuses on the development of hydrogen storage alloys, and he teaches steelmaking classes to students in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering.

“Every year, I encourage students to participate in steelChallenge during class. Steelmaking classes are theoretical, but I think students gain real-world experiences by participating in steelChallenge. What they learn by participating in the competition will help them a lot in the industry. Among the students who recently attended my class, two consecutive winners in the Asia-East and Oceania-Student Category in 2020 and 2021 have come out. I would like to thank the officials of the World Steel Association for making such a good program.”
