steelChallenge
What is steelChallenge?
steeluniversity organises an annual steelChallenge inviting those who work in the steel industry and registered students to compete in an online competition to manufacture steel using our simulators.
When is steelChallenge?
The first round of steelChallenge, the Regional Championship, takes place on the last Wednesday in November. Winners of the regional competition are invited to compete in the World Championships scheduled for the following April. On the day of the Regional Championship, the competition will run for 24 hours from 12.00 UTC (noon) to 12.00 UTC the following day.
How do I compete in steelChallenge?
Registration opens on the steeluniversity website the first week of September. Register for steelChallenge, take the related courses, practice making steel in the simulators, and prepare for the Regional Championship.
Can I get help during steelChallenge?
We encourage participants to collaborate in preparation for steelChallenge, take the courses, practice, and ask questions. Participants should compete individually during the competition.
Can I have my ranking for steelChallenge?
Each steelChallenge attracts a few thousand participants who complete tens of thousands of simulator runs. We audit and verify the top results to be able to declare the official top 5 industry and top 5 students in each competition region. We do not audit and verify the other results (there’s too many to do in a timely manner), so we can offer an unofficial standing for the remaining participants.
Can I have the results of everyone in my company (or educational institution)?
We provide results of people in a company (or educational institution) to sponsors of steelChallenge. Sponsors make it possible for us to deliver steelChallenge to an enthusiastic audience and to offer prestigious prizes. To become a sponsor of the next steelChallenge, please contact us.
Careers
I’m interested in a career in the steel industry. How can I find a job?
We are investigating the possibility to add a careers section to the steeluniversity website to provide a hub for finding open positions in the steel industry. In the meantime, the careers section on individual company websites may be consulted.
