SAF0107308 – Working at heights on or around an electric arc furnace (EAF)

Description

Estimated time: 0.30 hours

In the Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) recycled steel scrap is melted and converted into high quality steel by using high-power electric arcs. The operation of EAFs is critical, and the equipment require an intensive maintenance program to ensure reliability and safe conditions. Working at heights represent a significant risk for workers involved in these activities (e.g., panel replacement). These activities are aggravated by the hazardous environment surrounding the EAF (e.g., molten metal at high temperature inside of the furnace, dusts, hazardous fumes, etc.). Working at height in plants and equipment related to the steel industry should be controlled considering specific contexts.
