6 tips to get the most out of steelChallenge-12

steelChallenge-12 is about to begin. The Regional Championship of the steel industry’s largest global competition takes place 29 November from 12.00 UTC. For 24 hours, thousands of people will be online competing.

We offer some tips to help you achieve your best performance:

1) Take the secondary steelmaking course

steeluniversity offers a short online course on secondary steelmaking available via our website. Learn the theory behind use of the simulator will help you to perform more successfully. Whether you are a student who is starting on the subject or you are an experienced professional, the course will help you clearly understand how to optimise values to get better production costs.

2) Practice with the simulator

Practice makes perfect, says an old saying. Therefore, it is very important that you become familiar with the simulator, its interface, the location of the controls and its operation in general. The same simulator will be used in the competition, although a grade of steel specially designed for steelChallenge-12 will be used in the competition.

3) Participate in the community

We have a large community of students, professors and steel professionals who participate in the activities and courses of steeluniversity. Whether through our Facebook page, following us on Twitter or through LinkedIn updates, take advantage of the experience to connect with people who have your same interests.

If you want to invite classmates, colleagues, students or friends, congratulations! We have a communications kit to help us make the steel community even bigger. Download it here.

Some people compete while in a group of fellow participants while others choose to participate alone. Share your photo with the hash tag #steelchallenge12 during the competition to show us how you are taking the challenge forward.

6) Rest

steelChallenge-12 is open for 24 hours. That does not mean you need to compete the whole time, though you are welcome to do. We keep the competition open for 24 hours to facilitate participation in different time zones around the world so everyone has the chance to compete during daylight hours. You need 3 successful runs of the simulator to obtain an average score to determine your ranking.
